Not only does Winter offer beautiful scenes of snow, frost and ice but it provides an opportunity to return to my favourite and familiar scenes to capture them now under a blanket of snow and ice. Winter photography is also the perfect time for capturing mist and fog. These can provide a beautiful, mysterious backdrop in your shots. Because mist and fog can be fleeting; drifting in and out of your compositions, patience is required, in carefully choosing the subject and waiting for the right moment to shoot. The challenges of winter scape photography include cold temperatures (that not only affect you, the photographer but also “cold effects” on the camera body, lenses, battery life, and so on.

So here’s to making the most of a cold and unforgiving but enchantingly beautiful season!
